2025 and All the Things

Happy New Year!

Yes… We have a new look. Not only on the website but also with our travel wheels. A newer silver truck to pull our Airstream and, yes, a motorcycle (Carl’s post-mid-life crisis madness!).

The beginning of January always seems to be pregnant with hopes, dreams, and possibilities. Some of us set resolutions or goals; others just are happy to have survived the previous year. I’m not going to wax poetic on the promises of 2025. We all have our thoughts and conflicts of one year ending and another beginning.

I mentioned in an earlier blog that we hoped to take my (Karen’s) mom and her dog Toby to Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks this summer. That trip has been altered. No worries…Mom is FINE. In fact, she had hip surgery in December and is doing phenomenally well with recuperation and physical therapy. She would prefer not to make a cross-country trip. Long travel days and being away from home for several weeks is not something she desires.

However! My brother and sister-in-law are planning a trip to Yellowstone, and their daughter and son-in-law plan to fly out there as well. So, I think Yellowstone is still on our radar for 2025.

What else does 2025 promise for Riveting Journey?

Florida
A wedding (son)
Adding a few more states to our MAP
Yellowstone
Visiting our daughter in her new Colorado home
Maybe Washington?
Sugar beet harvest (Carl)
Another wedding (daughter)
Maybe selling our house?

Florida… Because we are currently in the southeast, and it is warmer there. Carl’s son lives in Orlando so we can spend time with him and his fiancé.

A wedding… Eric (Carl’s son) and his fiancé Patty are marrying in Orlando in March. We look forward to celebrating this event with them!

A few more states… Missouri, possibly Kansas, and Nebraska. We still have states to add to our map! We have not yet hit all the states (except Hawaii) with our Airstream!

Yellowstone… Meeting up with my brother Kevin, his wife Angie, my niece Amanda, her husband Ro, and their little daughter Evie.

Visiting our daughter in Colorado… Our youngest daughter, Rachel, is starting a new job at Colorado State University this month. This is a BIG move for her and affects not only her but her partner, her friends, and her family. We are so proud and excited for her, and we hope to visit her in the spring or summer. Plus… going back to Colorado does NOT hurt my feelings.

Maybe Washington? Well, we have family who live in different parts of that state. Plus, we left our inflatable kayak behind at our niece’s house in Davenport in 2023. We need to pick it up! I miss getting out on the water when I want to, although we will rent kayaks or paddleboards as needed until we get it.

Sugar beet harvest… Carl loves this temporary job, although IMHO it occurs during the best travel time of the year.

Another wedding… Our daughter Madeline and her fiancé Layne are marrying in Mexico in November. I’ve never stayed at an all-inclusive resort. Nor have I attended a destination wedding. And we are excited to have Layne become an official member of our family.

Selling our house… Okay. I’m not sure if this will happen or not. It is an ongoing discussion and sometimes debate on whether we want to go “part-time” with our RV traveling. However, if we decide to buy a house somewhere, CASH IS KING! Contingency offers are no longer fashionable. So, we are toying with the idea of selling our house to have the cash to buy something when ready. IF we do this, it will be after our beautiful daughter’s wedding in November.

Before we know it, the next 12 months will fly by, and 2026 will be upon us. Embrace every day, savor every moment, and KEEP IT RIVETING!
